Philip Bliss
BA (hons). Surrey University. Guildford School of Acting 3yr diploma. Principals Award.
Philip worked as an actor for 15 years in theatre, TV, film, radio and commercials. For much of that time he was one of the principal actors with the Loose Change Theatre Company. Ten years ago he became a voice coach, starting out as a dialogue coach on TV commercials, and teaching phonetics and speech fundamentals to undergraduates at Rose Bruford college.
Work in Education
For the last 5 years Phil has taught voice skills at Brunel University to undergraduates, and has recently begun expanding his work there with training programmes for lecturers and academics.
Interested in the teacher’s voice, Phil delivers communication skills training at all levels working with Etch training - www.etchtraining.co.uk - and is a prominent member of the Voice Care Network (a nationwide charity dedicated to the teacher’s voice) for whom he has spoken at conference and training events.
He is currently commissioned to write a series of articles on the teachers voice for Montessori International.
Philip's work has been reviewed and recommended by the Times Education Supplement.
For 3 years Philip worked on the Knowledge Transfer team at the Central School of Speech and Drama (London University) for whom he designed and delivered courses, also wrote articles, modules and training manuals. Phil’s work with Knowledge Transfer aimed to use voice training to enable groups such as the homeless (working with The Big Issue and St. Mungo’s) and the long term unemployed (working with Springboard). Phil presented his work at conference at CSSD last year (see testimonial).
International Work in Business
Philip's work takes him around the world, delivering communication skills training at corporate events and conferences at the highest level; (see testimonials).
In Norway he has worked with Telenor, Schibsted, DnB NOR and Oslo National Library. In France with Airbus, in South Africa with Ranbaxy and in Poland with PWC.
In the UK, in addition to private individuals, his client list includes; BP, Grant Thornton, CMS, Kleinwort Benson, Wella, Westminster think-tanks Reform and Open Europe, The Czech Embassy, Imperial College London, The Royal Opera House, Warner Hotel Group, Royal Historic Palaces, The NHS, RNLI and London Boroughs Tower Hamlets and Wandsworth.
